Every child, regardless of ability, has the right to enjoy the sports which they love. Furthermore, sports such a football addresses needs that go well beyond those of basic physical fitness. Children playing football build confidence, develop focus and emotional control. Not forgetting self-discipline, improved judgement leadership, cooperation, peer relationships and self-esteem.
Just last month, we saw a group of CP (Celebral Palsy) and ID (Intellectual Disability) players from Singapore displaying those positive attributes which we have mentioned above in the 3rd Pan Disability Football Tournament in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
While impressing the spectators and judges along the way, CP Team also went on to be crowned Champion in the 4 teams tournament while ID Team-A and Team B came in runner-up and 3rd in the group stage respectively to fly Singapore’s flag high overseas!
Head coach, Mohamed Zainudeen (Zai) was full of praises for the boys. And once again, coach Zai emphasized that the main objective of participating in the tournament was to develop and give the boys a chance to play and have fun. Although result was secondary, he was certainly a happy man that the boys had fun and performed well in an overseas tournament.
