Another big name is leaving the world’s favorite game, football. Ukraine striker, Andriy Shevchenko has officially retired from football at the age of 35 years old which he revealed that he will be joining a pro-business political party, Ukraine Foward.

According to a statement released by the party, the Ballon d’Or winner in 2004 and the current third-highest goalscorer in Champions League history with 58 goals also mentioned that he want to fulfill himself in politics and share the experience he gained in Europe to contribute something to his country.

“Probably, I will shock all of you. My future will not be linked to football in any way. It will be linked to politics. I hope for your support,” he said in a statement on the Dinamo Kiev website.

By going into politics, Shevchenko will be following in the footsteps of another Ukrainian sports star, the heavyweight boxing champion Vitaly Klitschko, who has founded his own political party with the aptly-chosen acronym UDAR (punch) and will be a serious contender in October’s parliamentary elections in opposition to the Regions Party of President Viktor Yanukovych.

In his illustrious career, he earned a total of 172 caps for his native Dinamo Kiev, 208 caps for AC Milan, 46 caps for Chelsea and an amazing 111 International caps for Ukraine! This football legend has left a remarkable record which many will attempt to rewrite. Junpiter Futbol wishes him all the best of luck in his next politic career.
