Warrior has furthered the brand’s global reach to Japan upon the announcement of a new kit deal with J.League side Sagan Tosu FC.
Signed by Warrior Football’s Japanese distributor, WASP Japan, Sagan Tosu FC currently plays in Division 1 of the J.League, Japan’s top national football league. Located in Tosu, on the southerly Kyushu Island, the team’s home ground is based at the 24,000-seater Tosu Stadium.
Global head of Warrior Football Richard Wright is excited to see the brand make its mark in Japan.
“Sagan Tosu has grown from strength to strength in its relatively short history, and to finish fifth in its debut season in the J.League is a remarkable achievement,” said Wright. “We’re excited to see our distributer secure this partnership agreement with the Club and are confident this will be a great start for Warrior Football’s presence in Japan and beyond.”
Minoru Takehara, President of Sagan Tosu FC, said having the Club aligned with Warrior is an important step for the Club, helping to take Japanese football to the next level.
“We are very happy to have been selected as Warrior’s first club signing in Asia and have no doubt this will be a beneficial partnership for all parties,” he said.
Takafumi Kakimoto, CEO of WASP Japan, added: “Partnering with a club in one of the most successful leagues in Asian football is a great move for Warrior to strengthen its position in the Japanese market.”
In 1999 Sagan Tosu FC was admitted to the J.League Division 2 as one of the original ten teams, where they remained until their promotion to J1 at the end of the 2011 season. The team is currently managed by South Korean, Yoon Jung-Hwan.
