Manchester United Soccer Schools (MUSS), in partnership with Kirkwall Sports Pte Ltd, has announced that they will deliver long-term coaching programmes in Singapore, based at ITE College Central at Ang Mo Kio.

The first course kicking off on 2nd February for boys and girls aged between seven and 16 will focus on current Manchester United first team players Nani, Giggs and Valencia, in which the players will learn various skills and techniques that can be used to dominate a “1 v 1” situation.

Other than developing football techniques, the courses will also focus on the personal development of each child as they will be encouraged to develop a positive attitude, both on and off the pitch, as well as develop their confidence and social skills.

There will also be an emphasis on nutrition, the importance of adopting a balanced, healthy diet, and encouraging children to make correct food choices as part of their daily routine, especially before and after training.

“The courses are going to help fine-tune our players’ techniques and develop their decision-making abilities on the pitch. The children will learn the same techniques displayed by Manchester United players and have the opportunity to develop these techniques in small-sided game situations on a regular weekly basis,” said Andy Dixon, Head Coach of MUSS in Singapore. “Everything we do at MUSS relates back to the Club’s first-team players. We believe that this is a very effective way of gaining understanding and getting positive results from the children.”

Abdur Raheem, Executive Director of Kirkwall Sports Pte Ltd, said, “Our aim was always to offer long-term MUSS courses in Singapore. The seasonal courses that we delivered in the past have been very popular and we expect to see the same response to our full-time programmes thanks to Singapore’s insatiable appetite for the beautiful game. Having the opportunity to use the outstanding facilities at ITE College Central in Ang Mo Kio, we are very excited about the future of youth development in Singapore.”

All children enrolled will take part in the MUSS series of skills challenges. The top performers will be selected to participate in the SEA Skills Final where the winner will receive an all-expenses paid trip to Manchester to compete in the World Skills Final at Manchester United’s Carrington training ground, as well as the world-famous Old Trafford stadium in October 2013.

Featuring 16.5 hours of on-field coaching by certified MUSS coaches, the first course costs SG$525 per child and includes an exclusive Nike Manchester United training kit and giveaway pack, as well as catch-up sessions, individual player evaluation and player certificate. Special discounts are available to siblings, and those who sign up for more than one course.

Dr Ang Kiam Wee, Principal of ITE College Central, said: “The Manchester United Soccer School (MUSS) football program at ITE College Central has also garnered strong interest among our students. At ITE, we place strong emphasis on students’ physical wellness and total holistic development. One of the initiatives is advocating a sports and wellness culture through healthy lifestyle and exercise. Our students certainly look forward to being part of the programme, as well as the Manchester United soccer experience.”

As part of the partnership with Kirkwall Sports Pte Ltd, eighty ITE students will be given an opportunity to join the MUSS soccer training programme annually for free. Besides training, these students will also train under Manchester United legends who come to Singapore from time to time.

One of the most respected soccer schools in the world, MUSS has been conducting seasonal courses to SEA children in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines since 2008, but this is the first time a full-time programme has kicked off in this region.
