Young players out there! If you want to have an opportunity to play at Old Trafford and soak in a little atmosphere of famous Carrington training ground, Lady Luck is shining on you!
Manchester United Soccer Schools (MUSS) is set to launch year-round programs in Singapore this weekend!
The first course will focus on the skills and techniques displayed by Nani, Giggs and Valencia, where participants will learn to dominate the 1 v 1 situation.
Over the last weekend, I was given the opportunity to turn back the clock where I became a 15 years old at the new ITE campus, ITE College Central. Not because I was back to a school campus again but I was invited to train with a group of 15 years olds under the guidance of MUSS coaches, Andy Dixon, Will Patz and Jorg Steinebrunner.
Most of the players attended the course were of mixed abilities, but the MUSS certified coaches managed to identify the different abilities and addressed the needs of every player in order for the player to reach their optimal level. Being one of the eldest players on the pitch, I also enjoyed myself and had such a great fun the entire morning!
So what distinguishes MUSS from other soccer schools? MUSS head coach Andy Dixon explained, “One of the big things is the holistic approach we take to youth development. We look to develop each child to his optimum level both on and off the pitch. We place a lot of emphasis on the physical, mental and social development as well as their technical and tactical development.”
“Wherever we go in the world, all MUSS courses create a safe, open and positive learning environment which inspires development, ensuring that all players have a positive football experience with the emphasis on all activity being fun. All challenging activities are directed towards the developmental age of all participants which the participants will leave the course with a raised self-esteem, made them become active learners, giving them ownership of the problem solving and decision making processes and also, they will understand that hard work and effort through practice are more important than victory – the redefinition of winner.”
“Lastly, all of our staff, as well as being UEFA qualified have received specific MUSS training. All of our programs are of the quality and authenticity that you would associate with a club such as Manchester United. We make everything Manchester United specific. We use important moments form the club’s history, past and present to offer inspirational activity at all times,” Andy added.
Physically, it was challenging for me to run around with a group of 15 years old but it was a great experience and fun to understand more about the Manchester United way of training. Just like what Manchester United Academy Manager, Brian McClair who was recently in Singapre for the NexLions Cup with Manchester United U-19, said: “If you look to pin down a Manchester United style, you look at technically gifted players who can pass and control a football and you can develop that into situations where they’ll play the way the First Team are playing. That comes down to a basic principle of being able to pass the ball; that’s what the First Team do – control, pass, move – s that’s what the kids practice at MUSS.”
