Ask any football coach, during which period of time in a game is the most critical and crucial where normally the players will lose their focus and concentration? They will answer you the first 5 minutes and the final 5 minutes of a game.
Singapore Lions played host to India Blue Tigers at Choa Chu Kang Stadium last evening and the final scoreline was 2-0 in favor of Singapore. After a series of poor results, losing 0-2 to Philippines and 1-1 away draw with Myanmar last month, Singapore was in need of an injection to the arms to boost the morale of the team. The victory last evening served the minimum purpose. With respect to the opponent, India is always a decent team to play against and the game will never be an one-sided affair.
Singapore’s Assistant Coach, Aide Iskandar, was particularly delighted with Singapore number-19, Khairul Amri’s performance. Khairul made his long overdue return to the National Team, scored a goal and assisted the second. Just when you thought Singapore only has one striker, Aleksandar Duric, Khairul stepped up to silence the critics. As we all know, Khairul has the potential to lead the front line if he can stay free from injury.
Nonetheless, credits can’t be taken away from Singapore team, the victory last evening was a well-deserved one. Just when we are waiting for the next friendly game to be arranged in preparation for the AFF Suzuki Cup, let’s not forget our very own S-League which is already into the final few rounds.
By the way, the both goals which sank the Blue Tigers last evening, were scored in the 42nd minute and 49th minute by Khairul Amri and Fazrul Nawaz respectively. And these both goals were conceded by India in the most critical and crucial period of time in the game. Something for India team to ponder about…
