The duo had their own fair share of Asian footballing experience. Luis Garcia played in Indian Super League and Australia’s A-League while Gaizka Mendieta played in the FIFA World Cup held in Japan/Korea in 2002.

So what does the former Valencia & Barcelona midfielder Gaizka Mendieta think of Asian football?

“I think that Asian football is definitely improving. With today’s technology, no matter which part of the world you are in, you are able to watch games from any football league in the world. And that greatly expose you to the highest level of football easily.

Asian football is certainly one which benefit from that as well. Be it coaching or tactical knowledge, Asian football is constantly learning and growing fast. And Football Federation might not be the only reason why football is improving in Asia. There are also many good football academies in Asia which are developing younger talents. That plays an important part too, “ said Mendieta.

“In fact, it is a very natural thing now to see more Asian players playing in European leagues now. We have got the best from Japan (Takefusa Kubo) and South Korea (Lee Kang In) in La Liga now. But if you ask me, I think the best of Asian football is yet to come. It will continue to grow and very soon they will be closing the gap between themselves and European football, “ added the former Spain International.
