The curtain has closed on the 2013 RHB Singapore Cup Final at Jalan Besar Stadium earlier this evening between Home United FC and Tanjong Pagar United FC that ended 4-1 in favour of Home United FC, with The Protectors winning the prestigious cup tournament for the sixth time. This victory followed a fine win over Albirex Niigata FC (S) in the S.League Championship race that saw them finish the season as first runners-up.
Gracing the occasion at the Final was Guest-of-Honour Mr K. Shanmugam, Minister For Foreign Affairs and Minister For Law, and he was accompanied by VVIPs Tan Sri Azlan Zainol, Chairman, RHB Bank Berhad; Mr Masagos Zulkifli Bin Masagos Mohamad, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and FAS President Zainudin Nordin. The guests and fans were first treated to exuberant cheerleading performances by S.League’s SuperBabes, followed by a special appearance by the stars of the hit movie “Ah Boys To Men” much to the delight of the 6,588 strong crowd as they waited for the two teams to take the centre stage. What followed was a quality and engaging match as both Home United FC and Tanjong Pagar United FC put each other to the sword, but The Protectors triumphed to win the RHB Singapore Cup once again.
S.League CEO, Mr Lim Chin said: “Tonight was indeed a great night at the RHB Singapore Cup Final. The Jalan Besar Stadium was packed and the two teams put up a splendid show with good quality football and lots of goals as well. Congratulations to Home United FC for a great season and for winning the 2013 RHB Singapore Cup. It has also been a superb season for Tanjong Pagar United FC , one of their best seasons in recent years. Most important of all, I would like to thank the 6,588 fans who turned up and stayed through the downpour to cheer and support the teams tonight.”
Home United Prime League also won their first ever Singapore Pools FA Cup after defeating Sporting Westlake FC with a similar score.
