It’s time to finally get some decent sleeps after near 30days of late nights waking up in the middle of the night to join the rest of the world going crazy in front of the square box. I was for once really being completely insane for the right reason as I witnessed and watched a game of World Cup in Brazil during the group stage! A true football fan’s life could never been better than this.
For the first time in history, an European team lifted the World Cup on South American soil. To the dismay of all Argentinians, the result is not a surprising outcome with great due of respect for the entire South America continent. The Germans fought well despite playing a very cautious game and credits go to Germany for taking their chances well. And very unfortunate for the Argentinians again, that is the difference between a winner and a loser.
4 Man of the Match Award winner in this tournament, Lionel Messi, did not impress us with his play which in fact I think the pressure coming from not only his country, but also the entire football fraternity is way too strong and heavy for his little body frame. Very similar to the host nation, Brazil relied heavily on Barcelona’s Neymar which eventually costed them a place in the Final.
Whilst on the other side of the pitch, Schweinsteiger, Kroos, Lahm and Muller were working their socks off for a more balanced team play. Nothing fanciful about their kind of European football, but useful and effective by stringing up straight passes with minimum touches. Alright, game was at times scrappy but hey, that was a Final game and you couldn’t expect players to go easy. To give the benefit of doubt, unintentional punches were thrown at certain challenges, sliding tackles were a common scene, blood flowing down the cheek, pretty much an end to end game at the iconic Maracanã.
Eventually, the better team won the game. Just when everyone thought that it’s going to be another cruel penalty shootout at the end of the 30mins Extra Time, the German begged to differ as their young attacking midfielder, Mario Götze showed the world his great control and first time volley to silent the once world’s biggest stadium at Rio de Janeiro.
After a long 24 years, Germany has lifted the World Cup again!
