The Football Association of Singapore (FAS) is pleased to announce the squad of 21 players who have been called up to the National Team that will be playing in an AFC Asian Cup qualifying match against Jordan on 4th February 2014, at the Jalan Besar Stadium.
The team comprises a mixture of youth and experience, including ten players who most recently represented Singapore at the 2013 SEA Games, as well as seasoned veterans such as Baihakki Khaizan, Shahril Ishak and Khairul Amri.
Highlighting Jordan’s quality, National Team Head Coach Bernd Stange said: “Jordan has one of the best teams in Asia, as we have seen from their advancement into the World Cup 2014 qualifying playoff, to play against Uruguay.
“Competing against teams such as Jordan will provide valuable experience for our younger players, who can only grow and get better from playing against teams of such a level. If we aspire to compete at the highest level, we must play regularly against such quality teams.
Appealing to fans to support the stadium, Coach Stange added: “It will be a tough challenge, especially with the short time that we have had for preparation due to unforeseen circumstances, but as we are playing at home, our players will definitely put up their best performance in front of our fans. We must continue to show progressive improvement, game after game and I expect nothing less from my players. I hope that fans will come to the stadium to be the twelfth man and support the team.”
The team will start training on 2nd February 2014.
