Faris Ramli, Singapore’s representative at Nike ‘The Chance’ Global Finals held in Barcelona, had the golden opportunity that most teens his age would love to have; he got to see Barcelona’s Iniesta in person and even got to give him a hug! And excited Faris proclaimed, “I still cannot believe that having seen him on television, I was standing in front of him and even got to warm-up with his Barcelona teammate, Busquets. What more can I ask for!”
With the first three days of the Global Finals over, the boys had a rest day before they head back into training where the 100 boys will be streamlined to 52 boys.
When quizzed about his chance to make the cut, Faris, who is nursing a slightly swollen ankle said, “The training sessions have been awesome and intensity level is at a high every single minute. The temperature here in Spain is similar to Singapore’s and I am using this to my advantage. Looking across the pitch, I can see that every single finalist is giving 100% and for that, I am pushing myself to give 110%!
"As for making it through to the final 52, I am quietly confident as I know that I did well and showcased my talent in front of the coaches. I definitely want the chance to be in the final 52 but having done all I can, the rest is in God’s hands”, added the Courts Young Lions winger.
While the intensity on the training pitch has been competitive, the boys are having a great time bonding together off it. Faris has visited the famous La Masia Academy and also Barcelona’s Camp Nou with his 99 new friends and even had time to don a chef’s hat and learn to make sandwiches!
