While waiting for this grand arrival and appearance at Stadio @ Canberra, Sembawang, many futbol fans in Liverpool jersey had already started crowding round the beautiful turf pitches. Not long after, a 6ft 3in tall figure walked down from the stairs to the delight of many futbol fans, he’s none other than the main guest, former Bayern Munich, Newcastle, Liverpool, Man City and German International, Dietmar Hamann!
Do you know anything about Singapore’s futbol prior to this trip?
I was here with Liverpool nearly 10 years ago and I know South-East Asian futbol is on the up and getting competitive. There are also many good foreign players coming to this part of the world and I believe the standard here is improving.
Which is your best achievement during your playing days?
The Champions League win with Liverpool in year 2005. That has to be the most memorable.
From your point of view, why was Germany, which was regarded as one of the hot favorites, booted out of the UEFA Euro Cup?
I think it’s a psychological problem because they have the capability to match the big teams be it semi-final or final, I don’t think it’s any coincidence, they just don’t seems to handle the pressure very well.
As a former professional futbol player, who did you look up to? As a current coach, which coach do you look up to?
During my growing up time, Michel Platini just won the European Championship with France and Platini was one whom I admired. Coach, I don’t really look up to anyone in particular but there are a couple of good coaches who I have worked with, obviously I try to take a little bit of everybody and have my own style.
If I am a futbol player, what can I do to impress you to sign me?
Haha.. Work hard. You have to work hard and show me the right attitude to get a chance.
