Ajax Amsterdam Youth & former Lion City Cup player Ezra Walian, 19yrs old, rumored to be taking up Indonesian citizenship. Countless media reports in Indonesia have been circulated since 2 days ago and reports are saying that the young Dutch player, with Indonesian origin, has already gotten his citizenship neutralization documents done and is currently undergoing final processing.
The young striker was famously first introduced to Southeast Asia at the age of just 15 years old when he traveled to Singapore with Ajax Amsterdam U15 to participate in the world’s first U16 tournament, Lion City Cup in 2012. During that year, Ajax Amsterdam U15 lifted the Cup and Ezra received the Golden Boots Award for his enormous effort. In the next year, his ability to score on international youth stage stunned the world when he netted 5 goals in Netherlands’ 12-0 demolishment of San Marino in the UEFA European U17 Championship.
However, the young striker, whose dad is originated from Manado (Indonesia), returns to Indonesia annually for charity & football works. The returning of Ezra to Indonesia as a yearly affair and his constant supportive messages to the Garuda via his social media garners massive followings from the people in Indonesia. With his well-known striking talent and exposure in Netherlands, it is not surprising to know that Indonesian fans hope to have him returning “home”.
Ezra Walian was invited to join the world renowned Ajax Amsterdam Youth Academy from Alkmaar in 2012. At the age of just 15 years old, the 1.78m tall striker was already playing regularly for the Ajax U19 team. Ezra also represented Netherlands U15, U16, U18 & U19. Currently, he is representing Ajax U21, also known as Team Jong Ajax, in the Netherlands’ Second Division.
