Joining Singapore U-16 in the 24th Canon Lion City Cup semi-final will be AFC Ajax Amsterdam, Manchester City and Vasco da Gama.
The first game yesterday saw Ajax pressing Porto all the way to a 3-1 victory. However, when the game started, both European teams were equally patience. The play was neat with minimum tackling disruption. At certain point, it seems like a game of chess where the gentlemen allowed the other to finish his move, then he would take his turn to move his next step!
Although game was smooth, Ajax’s attack was never a knot down. With Ajax’s number-10 and captain, Abdelhak Nouri, masterminding the move right in the middle of the park, Ajax’s number-8, Vince Dekker, whipping in all the dangerous crosses from the left flank and Man-of-the-Match, Ajax’s number-9, Ezra Walian, providing the finishing touches, it’s not easy not to understand the final score line.
Porto’s number-7, Bruno Costa, did well in cutting in from the flank to attempt a few decent shots on goal but that was not be sufficient for Porto. 2 goal attempts from Porto were cleared off the line in the very last minute of the game probably sum up the day for Porto.
In the second match, Singapore U-15 went down 6-nil to Manchester City U-15, but not without a fight. The Singapore boys were fearless in their attack as they took on Manchester City’s defence right from the start. In fact, Singapore was running at Manchester City forcing them to make mistakes! However, Singapore’s defence was caught too high-up and square, allowing the English team to take advantage of that.
Comes Friday, Singapore U-16 takes on Vasco da Gama U-15 while Manchester City U-15 will take on AFC Ajax Amsterdam U-15. Tickets are still available at the Stadium. Do join us to support the teams!
