Yangon United & Myanmar National Team Captain Yan Aung Kyaw Retired from football

The 34 year old defensive midfielder took on his social media to announce his retirement from football after playing his last match for Yangon United on Wednesday. In fact, Captain Ice, as he is also popularly known as, already highlighted to the media early this year that this will be his last season of his career.

Since his debut for Yangon United in 2009, the soft-spoken but hard-tackling midfielder went on to represent the club 298 times in 11 years, making him the player with the most appearances at the highest level of football in Myanmar football history.

During his amazing decade-long career, Yan Aung Kyaw has won the Myanmar National League title 5 times (2011-13/ 2015/ 2018), General Aung San Shield 3 times (2011/ 2018-19) a SEA Games bronze medal (2011) and a Philippines Peace Cup with Myanmar National Team in 2014.

“I have the priviledge to represent Yangon United as a professional footballer from 2009 to 2020. I am really very happy. Yangon United is not just a club, it is like a home to me. I really want to thank my team mates, the coaches, the officials, the president and owner of the club. I would like to say a big thank you to everyone, “ said Captain Ice on his social media.

The former Myanmar captain also did not forget to thank all the supporters who have been cheering for him throughout his playing career.

“The hands of the fans’ are our strength. Now that I am no longer playing on the pitch, I want to clap my hands together with all of you at the stand. Till then, please continue to take care of yourself and be safe,” Yan Aung Kyaw commented.

How about a message to his Myanmar football fans who are based in Singapore? Yan Aung Kyaw spoke exclusively to Junpiter Futbol, “I would like to thank all football fans in Singapore who have been supporting me and my team all these years. Thank you for everything that you guys have done. It is never an easy decision to step away from the game that I love but it is time. Thank you!”
