He received the ball from his team mate, beat the defender with a swift stepover and sent the ball past the helpless goalkeeper from 10 yards out. Nothing unusual but just a little bit more detail, that shot was commanded by a Cerebral Palsy (CP) player.
Junpiter Futbol (JPF) was at Singapore CP National Team training last Saturday to present each and everyone with an exclusive pair of JPF wristbands, to show our support to the team which has just finished 3rd in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Dream Asia Cerebral Palsy Tournament which featured Asian futbol power houses such as Iran, Australia, South Korea, UAE and Jordan.
Honestly, if nothing has been mentioned prior to this futbol training session, you will not notice anything wrong with this group of players. Their passion for the beautiful game, their moves and the way they communicate on the pitch are nothing extraordinary; they are just ordinary player like you and me playing futbol day in day out! Well, some of the CP players do have obvious physical challenges but their passion for futbol is never a level below anyone of us reading this write-up. They play the same futbol.
The 2 hours spent with the boys were indeed inspiring. We really hope that after the very first Asian’s disabled football competition organised by the AFC, more of such competition will be organized for these groups of players to show the world what they are capable of. Singapore CP national team captain, Khairesma, also echoed in agreement, “This was something which I had been working for years, and I am happy that we could complete at the highest level of futbol with Singapore’s flag on our chest, its like a dream come true.”
Small wristband, big support. I believe everyone has a role to play in this society. Junpiter Futbol wishes these groups of players all the best and for those who are reading this write-up, if you think you can contribute to the team in a way or another, please get in touch with us at info@junpiterfutbol.com . We will be glad to link you guys up with the team.
