Singapore International Zulfahmi Arifin has signed a one-year deal with Thailand Suphanburi FC. This is Zulfahmi’s second stint in Thai League after having played for Chonburi FC in 2018.
The former Hougang United player will be the third & final ASEAN player for the team as he joins up with Philippines National Team’s forward Patrick Reichelt and goalkeeper Patrick Deyto.
Citing this deal with Suphanburi as a dream come true, Zulfahmi feels nothing but grateful for the opportunity. But how did this deal actually come about?
“I was having my dinner when I received a phone call from a football agent. He explained that the head coach of Suphanburi came across my profile and was very keen in signing me. I allowed the agent to represent me in that negotiation and within 2 hours, the deal was sealed, “ explained Zulfahmi.
“The coach called the very next day sharing with me on his plans for the club as well as for me individually. The gesture from him showed how much he was interested in having me in his squad. I am totally moved by his action. Shortly after the chat was done, the offer letter came and I was on my way to Thailand to pen it, “ Zulfahmi added.
The Singapore Midfielder/Defender is no stranger to Thai football after having spent a season playing in the Thai League back in 2018.
“It feels good to be back in the best league in Southeast Asia. I had a decent season with Chonburi 2 years ago and I really learnt a lot. With this second opportunity, I hope that I can outdo myself and give my very best for Suphanburi so as to repay them for the trust and opportunity given by the coach and management,” said Zulfahmi.
“I would also like to thank the club director, coach and management for this opportunity. And for the fans, let’s fight and achieve glory together as a team!”
Suphanburi FC is established in 1997. Home ground of The War Elephant, which they are also popularly known as, is at Suphanburi Provincial Stadium which seats 15,000 pax. They finished last season in 14th position.
Joining Zulfahmi at Thai League 1 next season will be Singapore Goalkeeper Izwan Mahbud who will be donning the jersey of Trat FC, Irfan Fandi with BG Pathum United FC and Baihakki Khaizan with PT Prachuap FC.
