Football Association of Singapore (FAS) is pleased to announce that the Women’s National Team is embarking on a training tour to Bangkok from 3 to 8 September 2013. The team left for Bangkok yesterday morning.

Fifty-five players were part of the team which started their preparations for the training tour in July 2013 after the end of the 2013 Women’s Premier League season, before the travelling squad was trimmed to 21 players. Preparations include weekly training sessions at the Millennia Institute as well as friendly matches with various teams such as the NUS Girls Team and the Millenia Institute Boys team.

The training tour will see the Women’s National Team play against three Thai Women’s clubs namely Chonburi FC, North Bangkok FC and Bangkok Metropolitan FC. The training tour will provide the team the necessary match exposure and experience against international opponents. It will also allow the team’s coaching staff to make necessary adjustments to an individual player’s development programme which will in turn aid in player selection for upcoming tournaments such as next year’s AFF Women’s Championship.

Head coach of the Women’s National team, Mohamad Hisham Bin Roslan is optimistic about the training tour: “The Women’s National Team is an important aspect in the set-up of local football. I am grateful to FAS for having given the team an opportunity to gain much-needed experience by going on this training tour. The team is determined to make the most of this training tour to prepare for next year’s AFF Women’s Championship. Further, this is a newly formed team with women of varying ages and I believe this tour will be beneficial in terms of allowing the team to work closer together. Ultimately, we hope to be able to field a team to compete at the 2015 SEA Games in our Sports Hub.”
