Nike today unveiled the new Singapore National Team Kit Nike, Shaw House. The kit, which will debut later this month at Southeast Asia’s biggest football championship, combines performance innovation, cultural design cues and environmentally sustainable materials.
DESIGN – FIVE TO BE FEARLESS
As Singapore enters the largest football stage in Southeast Asia, Nike’s design team sought to renew and energize the Lions as they look to defend their championship title on home ground. Having won the title in 1998, 2004, 2007, and 2012, the pressure is on the Lions to win the fifth championship – a feat that has never been achieved by any other team in the history of the competition.
Taking into consideration the pressure and multitude of commitments Singaporeans face on a daily basis, the Singapore National Team Kit was designed with a philosophy to embolden the team to fearlessly tackle for the highly coveted fifth title.
Shades of red were used in combination for the home kit, igniting the passion and fervor from the public and the team. The jersey maintains a classic crew cut featuring a deep red chevron to amplify speed. Bonded on the inner collar is a metaphoric Lion, symbolizing the pride of Singapore and reflecting a united identity of the team. The design also applies to the away kit, which is presented in a new shade of blue.
Both home and away kits are lined with bold Obsidian color cuffs and collars. The shorts and socks are in matching colors with the jersey.
While the new kit features Nike’s signature style and passion, it also delivers the latest in performance innovation, kit technology and environmental sustainability.
NIKE DRI-FIT TECHNOLOGY
Nike Dri-FIT technology draws sweat away from the body to the exterior of the garment where it quickly evaporates. This allows players to perform at their absolute best by remaining cooler, drier and more comfortable.
“By managing sweat and keeping the body cooler longer, players feel more confortable, sweat less, and perform better,” said Martin Lotti, Creative Director for Nike Football.
Laser-cut ventilation holes and mesh panels are featured in key areas of the kit and help improve performance by increasing air circulation to the players’ bodies and regulating their temperatures throughout the ninety minutes on the pitch.
The kits are made of a new dual-knit fabric consisting of both cotton and recycled polyester, which manages moisture and offers a softer feel and more flattering appearance.
ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY
Nike continues to place environmental sustainability at the heart of their kits, which are again made from recycled polyester and are created to provide unrivalled performance benefits and lower environmental impact.
“Incorporating environmental sustainability is a key part of the design and development process,” said Lotti. “Our aim is to create a kit that performs its best for players and is good for the planet.”
Made from recycled plastic water bottles, the kits’ shorts are 100 percent recycled polyester; the shirts are 96 percent recycled polyester, and the socks are 78 percent recycled polyester. Each kit is made using an average of 18 recycled plastic bottles, and over the last four years Nike has diverted almost two billion of these bottles from landfills to produce their kits.
By using recycled polyester Nike is also reducing the energy consumed in the entire process by up to 30 percent.
A NEW AND UPDATED PERFECT FIT
Nike took 3D body scans of many of the world’s leading footballers to create a kit with an updated and perfect new fit.
The new fit allows the body to move more naturally within the kit, improving players’ comfort and performance.
The Nike Elite Match fit sock for 2014 also boasts a sleeker and updated design created especially for football.
Nike’s designers spoke to many of today’s elite players to gain an insight in to what they wanted from a sock during a game.
There are now strategically cushioned zones to provide comfort and protection around the big toe and the anklebones where the majority of impact occurs, while arch support provides a firm foundation for the foot to prevent any slipping.
There is less material on the sock to enhance players’ touch, while flex grooves on the ankle and top of the foot prevent bunching.
The new and exclusive Singapore National Team Kit jersey is available from 6 November in limited quantity at Nike outlets in Shaw House, Paragon, and Ngee Ann City for S$99.
