Singapore & Thailand Are Biggest Winners in SingaCup 2019

The 9th edition of SingaCup, Singapore’s Premier International Youth Football Tournament has concluded on Friday at Cage Sports Park, Turf City! 140 teams competed in the 7-days annual International Youth 11-aside tournament and the biggest winners emerged from Thailand and Singapore!

 

For the Under-8 Final, Australia’s Athletic Football Group defeated Singapore’s Football Academy Protectors 5-1 while another Singapore team Turf City Football Club settled for the third position after a hard-fought victory over Malaysia’s Russian Junior Sports Academy 3-2.

 

Despite falling short at the Under-8 Final, Turf City Football Club Under-10 put up a fierce fight to edge out Australia’s Athletic Football Group 4-3 in the penalty shootout after the game ended in a 2-2 draw. Farmel Isvil Football Academy from Indonesia came in third.

 

The Under-12 saw Indonesian teams dominating the category. Okky Youth Soccer Under-12 registered a 3-1 victory over Malaysia’s Johor Darul Ta’zim Under-12 in the Final to claim the accolade. Okky’s fellow compatriot ASTAM Soccer School also defeated a Malaysian team SRA Bandar Seri Putra Gators 1-0 to claim the bronze medal too.

 

While the Indonesian have stolen the show at the Under-12 category, Philippines football was on full display in the Under-14 section. Debutant Makati Football Club sent 2 teams and both teams set up an all-Philippines semi-final before Makati Football Club 2005 defeated FOSSBI (Indonesia) 1-0 to win the category! In the third place, Makati Football Club 2006 registered a decent 3-1 victory over another Philippines’ representative Kaya Futbol Academy.

 

An entertaining Under-16 Final between Malaysia’s Johor Darul Ta’zim and SingaCup veteran, Australia’s Football West was played in front of a few hundreds football supporters. Eventually, it was the team from Malaysia which won the match convincingly with a 3-0 score line! Consolation for Australian football, Football South Australia took the third after a penalty shootout victory over Singapore’s Sporting Clube de Portugal.

 

Thailand’s BISP Cruzeiro Academy took on Malaysia’s Kelab Bolasepak Remaja Shah Alam in the Under-18 Final. Eventually, it was the experienced team from Thailand which took the title with a final score of 3-0. In the third/fourth-placing match, it was an all-Singapore team affair which saw SportCare-B defeated SportCare-A 1-0.

 

Chonburi Football Club Girls was crowned the Girls Under-14 champion with maximum points. The team from Thailand also scored an amazing 41 goals and conceding nothing throughout the tournament! For the Girls Under-16, it was GDT-ANZA Matildas from Singapore which won the title. Mindil Aces and Football West (both Australia) coming close behind the champion.

 

The next and probably the most celebrated 10th anniversary edition of the SingaCup will be held from 31 October to 8 November 2020! Echoing what Ms Anju Turambekar, AIFF Head of Grassroots Development & SingaCup 2019 Guest of Honor, has shared, we wish SingaCup all the best.
