Park To Part

Manchester Utd is set to sell their Asian Ambassador, Korean’s Park Ji-Sung, to Queens Park Rangers (QPR) with a £5million deal. This will be QPR’s sixth major signing of the summer – following Rob Green, Ryan Nelsen, Samba Diakite, Andrew Johnson and Fabio.

The former South Korean captain was at the peak of his career when he made the move to Old Trafford from Dutch club, PSV Eindhoven. Park was also the biggest footballer with a great fan base in Asia after helping to lead his country to the semifinals in the 2002 FIFA World Cup at home. He was also a prominent figure in South Korean National Team before his retirement from international football in 2011.

Park was always part of Sir Alex Ferguson’s planning for big matches in European championship but probably now he might not fit into the new current plan where the new signing, another fellow Asian, Shinji Kagawa, who did extremely well with Borussia Dortmund was signed in June. Kagawa could be the new global brand for Manchester Utd to maintain a stronghold in Asia.  

Park, who earns £70,000-a-week at United, is in line to become the top earner at Loftus Road in a deal which will represent a significant step in helping the club’s ambitious owner Tony Fernandes turn the west London outfit into a “global” brand. The former PSV Eindhoven star, who won four Premier League titles during his time in Manchester, must still pass a rigorous medical, however, before completing the move.

Nonetheless, we still wish Park all the best if the deal is set to be finalized. After all, it is a great news to know that Asian footballers are still greatly involved as part of some greatest clubs’ football revolution for success!
