The 23-year-old Hong Kong-born Serbian professional footballer, Stefan Antonic, has been given a unique opportunity to train with the Spanish second-division team Real Murcia CF, starting on August 14th.
Stefan, who currently plays as a defender in the Hong Kong Premier League, caught the eye of a football agent who was impressed by his performances and decided to offer him this opportunity. This is a rare chance for an Asian player to train with a Spanish club, and Stefan is understandably excited about the prospect.
“This is a great opportunity for me to learn from a big club that used to play in LaLiga, especially from a small country like Hong Kong. The football here is totally different, and I can learn a lot and improve as a player for sure,” said Stefan.
“I will be involved in a few friendlies this coming week, and I am feeling good and positive. Coach Carlos Cuellar, Sports Director Pedro Asensio and Agent Manu Lorenzo have assisted me a lot and made me feel at home here. I am just glad that someone recognized my effort and gave me this great opportunity. Regardless of the outcome, I hope that I can learn as much as I can and hopefully represent Hong Kong at the highest level in the near future,” added Stefan.
Stefan, who is the son of the former Hong Kong Premier League legend Dejan Antonic, grew up in Hong Kong and started his football career in the city. He has since played for several clubs such as Kitchee Youth, Southern District, and Sham Shui Po in Hong Kong, and currently plays as a defender for Hong Kong FC.
Real Murcia CF is a Spanish football club based in Murcia, led by former Osasuna, Sunderland, and Aston Villa player, Carlos Cuellar. The club currently competes in the Segunda División, the second tier of Spanish football. Stefan will be hoping to make a good impression during his stint with Real Murcia CF. If he does well, he may be offered a contract with the club.
