Draw for the 9th FIFA Confederations Cup 2013 was done last Saturday at Anhembi Convention Centre at Sao Paulo, Brazil. And the host, Brazil will play Asia representative, Japan, in the opening game on 15 June 2013!
The tournament was originally organized by and held in Saudi Arabia in 1992. FIFA took over the tournament in 1997 and renamed it as FIFA Confederations Cup. Not only it is a prestigious tournament where it gathers the best of each continent, FIFA Confederations Cup is also a full-dress rehearsal for the FIFA World Cup taking place the very next year in the same country! So next year onwards, its the year for Brazil!
“We are starting the countdown for FIFA Confederation Cup and we’re all aware that Brazil has a double responsibility in this tournament; to show off a beautiful brand of football that honors the Brazilian tradition and to accomplish another mission off the pitch, that is, to organize a tournament that’s unforgettable because of our organization and the way we will welcome the seven national teams and their fans. Our six host cities will be ready and show that Brazil gathers all the conditions to host the World Cup in 2014.” said Brazilian President, Dilma Rousseff.
