A total of 16 sports trainers, physiotherapists and strength & conditioning coaches from both the football and medical fields benefitted from the FIFA 11+ “Train the Trainers” Programme, which concluded earlier today.
Organised by the FAS’ Football Science and Medicine (FSAM) department, in conjunction with the FAS Medical Committee, the FIFA 11+ “Train the Trainers” Programme was held from 29-30 November. This programme was organised for the first time in South-East Asia at ITE College East yesterday and followed up by a half day seminar at the Jalan Besar Stadium today.
The participants learnt a great deal from world-leading authority on the FIFA 11+ Programme, Dr Mario Bizzini from FIFA Medical and Research Centre (F-MARC), who shared his insights on both the scientific and practical importance of implementing the FIFA 11+ programme as part of daily football training.
The FIFA 11+ is a complete warm-up programme which can be used by coaches of players from 14 years or older. Through scientific studies, the FIFA 11+ has been shown to reduce rates of injuries from between 30-50% in players. This course will kick off a 3-year plan, which aims at educating every certified coach in Singapore with the knowledge necessary to be able to implement the FIFA 11+ in their daily work with teams.
The Football Association of Singapore would like to thank the FAS Medical Committee for their help in making this programme a reality. Organising the Programme also highlights the FAS and FSAM’s continued desire to be progressive and to move forward regionally in accordance with scientific developments.
Dr Mario Bizzini was delighted with the turnout, and the wide reach of people whom the course can benefit: "I am very pleased to note the positive response to the programme, which stands to benefit so many people because it can be applied to all walks of life beyond football. I also want to thank FAS for their hospitality and excellent organisation of the programme. We hope to be able to continue making more of such progress for the benefit of everyone involved in Singapore football.“
Said Azrulnizam Shah, Head of Department, Football Science and Medicine: "The FIFA 11+ train the trainers course is a significant step forward for the association, in our endeavours to make progress in the state of sports science and medicine in local football. We are honoured to have Dr Mario Bizzini himself to conduct the course over here. We have put a plan in place, together with the FAS Medical Committee to ensure the knowledge gained here with our trainers to be cascaded to all members of the football community in the near future.”
Dr Cormac O’Muircheartaigh, the FAS Medical Committee Vice-Chairman, had similar sentiments: “We are proud to have worked together with the FAS FSAM in bringing this course to Singapore. We would like to thank Dr Bizzini for his time and effort and we look forward to organising other similar initiatives in the future and play our part in advancing the state of sport science and medicine in local football.”
