Singaporean football hero Baihakki Khaizan is capping off his impressive season by becoming the ambassador of the Chelsea FC Soccer School Singapore’s community programme.
The post will see the recently crowned Best Defender at the Football Association of Malaysia’s annual awards working with children from under-privileged backgrounds, using football as a tool to engage and inspire.
CFCSSSG will be working with local schools to provide after-school care to pupils most in need and provide them with a 60-minute tutoring session followed by a training session with the coaches of CFCSSSG.
The initiative kicks off in January 2014 at CFCSSSG’s east campus at Bedok South Secondary School, with Baihakki spending time with children both on and off pitch as part of the programme.
Ryz Martein Yacob, Executive Director of StarCom Sports Management Pte Ltd, the company that operates CFCSSSG, hopes more companies will join them in developing this programme and extend the benefits to even more children. ‘Through our work with the community, we have noticed there are many children who need a helping hand and we hope this additional support from CFCSSSG will help make a difference to their lives,’ he said.
‘Baihakki is a local hero and we are very grateful to his commitment to our programme. We want to help even more children and we seek for more corporations to join us in this initiative.’
Baihakki concluded: ‘This has been an incredible year for me and I am blessed to have the support of the community. Football has given me a wonderful career and life and I hope I can do my bit to give something back and help these children.’
Corporations and schools who wish to get involved in the programme can contact Konnie Koh at 6440 5503, or send an e-mail to community@chelseafcsssg.com
