The game between Barcelona and Chelsea should have set every futbol fan’s heart pumping real hard last night. I am not a subscriber to any futbol channel but sure I am able to get myself updated via social network and of course Youtube. When I woke up this morning, this name Torres appeared directly or indirectly on nearly all my futbol friend’s facebook status! Immediately, I did a quick search online and managed to catch the highlight of the game. Well, Chelsea progressed to the Champions League’s final but I came to realize 2 things.
Firstly, before this game, do you still remember how the media and fans mistreated Fernando Torres? The former Liverpool’s hotshot but current Chelsea’s ammo-less striker struggled to find his form with the Blues. In local context, Torres was a waste of money and many wrote about how bad a striker he was at Stamford Bridge. And suddenly with a twist of luck, the usual saying, at the right place right time, Torres’s goal in the injury time sank the Catalan players which ended their 2012 Champions League’s dream. That goal of Torres’ instantly marked the rebirth of his presence in the futbol scene. His name started appearing again and finally linking to some positive message on the facebook at least. Sometimes, you just need that little bit of luck to turn your life around. Welcome back, pretty face.
Secondly, I realized that playing beautiful futbol might not earn you a victory. Barcelona is known to be the best passing team around in this era. With world best player, Lionel Messi, together with Xavi and Iniesta in their line-up, their famous tiki-taka style of play is always entertaining and lovely to watch. Most of the time, the play yield results. Unfortunately, beautiful and entertaining futbol which was displayed by the Catalan players last night did not achieve the ultimate objective, that is, to win the game.
It’s definitely a disappointing outcome for Guardiola’s team but probably futbol fans will waste no time in dwelling over Barcelona’s misfortune. The other Champions League’s semi-final game between Real Madrid and Bayern Munich will take place tonight. Despite Chelsea’s 3-2 aggregate win over Barcelona, personally I don’t see Chelsea will be laying their hands on the Championship trophy. The Blues might beg to differ in the final. I shall stay tune.. by facebook or Youtube!
